The theme/story of my movie is going to a concert. I chose this because watching live music is one of my favorite things in the world, and I think that everyone should experience it in their lives.  Music is very important to me and helps me through things when I am upset, or stressed, or even just happy.

I chose images that related most closely to events that I have experienced in my life. The images depict shows that were about the size of shows that I have attended, and that reminded me of shows that I have gone to. I also feel that the colors of the images went together well.

The sounds was where I had the most difficulty. The song would not turn down to allow my voice to be audible no matter how many times I tired.  I tried changing the volume of each clip, and they simply would not work.  I attempted to restart the computer, and even delete and put the clips back in, and it still was not working correctly.  To make up for this, I put the music in between my voice so that it could be audible, and in the end I am not upset by the way that it turned out.

InDesign

In general, the biggest challenge for me was to find the correct colors to match the cards exactly. I just tried numerous times until I was able to find colors that matched close enough. I tried not to be too picky about it, and use up a lot of time. I also found it very tedious to make the check boxes, and to make them look like they were 3D as they do on the card. I used the line tool to add to the edges of the box to make them look like they were coming off of the page.

Overall, I am happy with the way that the spacing and colors look, and I think that they look as much like the card as I could make them.

Quark

I had similar issues with this card as I had with InDesign, but in this case I found it harder to find fonts that matched my card.  I had to try multiple different fonts, as well as try to use fonts that I previously found on InDesign.

I am proud of the fonts I was able to find, and think that I made this match my card to the best of my ability.

InDesign

The back of the card took much longer than I expected it to. Doing all of the small lines took a lot of extra time.  I tried to use copy and paste, but in the end it was faster to just create each line separately. The fonts were pretty basic, so those were easy to find in this instance.

I am proud with the way that all of the lines came out, and how well they match up with the original card.

Like my Santa’s Village Brochure, I used Christmas fonts that I downloaded online for my website home page.  The font that “Santa’s Village” is typed in is called Frosty, the font “It’s Christmas Today!” is in is called Santa’s Sleigh, “Weather” is St. Nicholas font and the type at the bottom is called Mercurius CT Std.  Last, the snowflakes I used was a font called WW Flakes. These fonts all reminded me of Christmas, and went well together.  I tried to switch up the colors of the fonts so that each section would look equally important, and so the page would not be boring looking.

The color scheme I used was just to include Christmas colors.  I used a dark blue at the top of the page so that it would look like Santa’s sleigh was flying across the night sky.  I wanted the website to appear evan, and not look busier in one section than the other, so I used different graphics to balance out the page.

I used different effects on a lot of the graphics and fonts.  I used outer glow on many fonts, as well as on both Santa graphics.  I also embossed, and used drop shadow on the Santa and Snowman graphic to look like it was popping off the page. I also used drop shadow on the “sign up” button, and the links at the top of the page to look like it could be clicked on.  I used satin on a few of the fonts.

One thing I found difficult was deciding what to include on the website, and how to arrange objects on the page.  I started by doing the top panel of the page, and then tried to design the rest of the page to compliment the colors of it.  I also had trouble trying to make it look like a functioning website, but I was able to do so by using effects on the graphics and fonts.

For the Santa’s Village brochure, I wanted to use fonts that represented Christmas, in colors that also accented Christmas.  To do this, my partner and I had to download some from the internet. For “Welcome” I used a font called Candy Cane, and made it large, because I thought it was the most important word on the page, as it is the page that introduces you to Santa’s Village, and clearly, because candy canes go with Christmas.  For “Santa’s Village” and ” About us” I used a font called Frosty.  My partner also used this font, so our brochure looks like it goes together.  This font also reminded me of Christmas.  And lastly, for the main text, I just used Minion Pro in italics because I wanted it to be Christmas-y and playful, but also be easy on the eyes.

Clearly, this brochure required Christmas colors, like green, red, and blue.  I made sure that all the colors complimented each other, depending on where they were on the brochure.  I used different images, like holly, a penguin, and a Christmas tree, to add to the Christmas theme. I placed these evenly throughout the brochure, so that it would not look too crowded.  I also made the text wrap around the image of the penguin, so that it all fit together nicely.  I placed the map on the right side, and made sure the background was nearly white behind the blue map, so that the colors would not clash.

To highlight specific words and images, I used different effects.  On “Welcome” i used outer glow, to ensure that it would really jump off the page.  I also did this for the rest of the headers on my page, for the same reasons.  I made “to Santa’s Village” satin, so that it would blend nicely with the other words.  I embossed each image, including the map, to make the images come to life, and to give the brochure some depth.  Lastly, for the Christmas tree image I used both inner and outer glow, so it would really look lit up.

I had a lot of trouble finding images that were a high enough resolution to not be blurry on InDesign. Once I was able to do so, I used the magic eraser tool oh Photoshop to get rid of white boxes around the images.  It took a lot of trial an error with each image, so I just put a lot of time and effort into getting the images on the brochure in a way that I liked.

Personally, I prefer InDesign to Quark.  The fact that Quark’s tools were more hidden made it much more difficult for me to find and use the tools.  Because I spent so much time on InDesign, doing this brochure, I was able to find that most tools and effects could be found on the top bar, or, many of the times, by write clicking on the image or text to put effects on them.  For me, it is much more user friendly than Quark.

Obviously, I chose Mayday Parade for this concert poster because I really enjoy their music. I also went to see them in October, so they were fresh on my mind.

For this concert poster, I wanted to be sure that all the colors went together, and that no areas were too busy.  I wanted to be able to present all the necessary information, without making it too wordy, or busy looking.

I decided to use the man with a red umbrella on this concert poster, because he is featured on all of Mayday Parade’s album covers.  I then wanted to display a picture of Mayday Parade because they are the headlining band on this tour.  I used a black and white picture so that it would blend better with the background.

I decided to place the picture over the mans face on the background, with hard edges, because the concept of Mayday Parades album covers is that you can never see the man’s actual face.

I found it challenging to use all fonts and font colors that could be seen on the background of the poster. It was difficult to make the fonts interesting, but still being able to read them.

To solve this font problem, I just changed the fonts and font colors until they were eligible, as well as pleasing to the eye.

I like how the colors of this concert poster look, and how they also match the colors of other projects I have previously done.  I feel it makes all of my blog posts/projects correlate and relative to each other.

If I had more time, I might have messed around with different fonts, or tried to change to hue and color of the photo I used in order for it to have a closer resemblance with the rest of the background on the poster

Obviously, I decided to do my slideshow on Something Corporate because they are one of my all time favorite bands.  I was able to see their reunion show over the summer and it was one of the best shows I was ever able to attend. I wanted to display my knowledge about them, and things they have accomplished over their many years of creating music.

I chose the songs that I used (Punk Rock Princess and Konstantine) because I felt that they displayed both sides of Something Corporate; the pop rock, fun side, and the powerful piano ballad, serious side.

The band’s colors are very plain and simplistic, so I stuck with the red and white that their logo is usually composed of, and used other neutrals like black and white to stay true to the bands colors.

I chose the plain font I used because I felt that it represented the band, who is pretty laid back and mellow.  They do not use crazy fonts or colors on their website.

Once challenge for me was creating the table.  The tables that are provided by powerpoint made all of the text show up at the same time.  To alleviate this problem, I created my own table using the Shapes tool, which gave me more control over the table, and when the different text would come up.  I also make the table in different shades of red so it would match the rest of my powerpoint.

The thing I found the most difficult was getting everything to be timed correctly in the powerpoint.  However, after rehearsing the time numerous times, and changing a few of the effects, I was able to include all my information in the powerpoint in just a minute, while still giving enough time to read all of my information.

Overall, I am very proud of this powerpoint. I don’t think that any parts are too boring, and I think that the songs were cut well, and blended pretty smoothly. I also like that the color scheme matches that of the band’s color scheme on their website.

If I were to have more time, I honestly do not think there is much I would change.  I am happy with most of the powerpoint.  The only thing I can think of is that I may have tried out different fonts, but in the end i like how it looks.

With the collage, I was hoping to make something that was not too busy but that still described my quote. To do this I tried to choose pictures that were mostly black and white.  I used pictured that had an accent color of red so that my collage would all go together.

To show “life” and “death”, I used images of a tree that was both alive and dead. To show “love” I used a couple, and a picture of children kissing, as well as the word love, and hearts under an umbrella.  I chose the image of the umbrella because it went with the picture of the couple, and pulled the collage together as a whole.  At the beginning, it was challenging to try to blend the images, and to get rid of the hard edges.  To do this I changed the opacity of images, as well as multiplied most of the layers. To make the “Love” stand out, I brightened the color of the image.  I used the blend tool to get rid of hard edges as well as make interesting designs and movement in the collage.

I had trouble trying to get the collage to be the background of my animation, but then I flattened it and was able to make it the background.

I am most proud of the collage and how the images go together with content, meaning, and even with the colors. I did not think I would be able to blend it as well as I did in the end.

If I had more time i would work more with the Blending tool, trying to make the blending and movement more natural.  Overall, I am more happy with this animation than I expected to be.

In this Contact Sheet, I was hoping to achieve clarity in all my pictures. I chose the pictures that I did because of their high resolutions.  I chose this picture of Venice for the Resolution row because it had a high DPI and could be easily manipulated.  For the Format row, I chose the image of the church becayse it was very colorful so that the Format and Color changed could be seen easily. I chose the Landscape picture because it was a high resolution, and the correct measurements.  For the framing picture I wanted to use a picture that used a focus, so I chose this picture of the girl with an umbrella so that I could slowly frame her.  I chose a flower for the Content row because I wanted to use and image that had good textures to zoom in onto.  And lastly, I chose Lindsay Lohan for my Purpose row. Originally, I had a lot of trouble trying to find photos with the correct resolution so that they would not get blurry when I framed or formatted them.  I got around this problem by changing the resolution in the Crop Tool before accepting the crop.  I am most proud of the fact that I was able to solve the problem that I was having with the clarity of cropping, and glad that I took the time to figure it out, because it made my Contact Sheet look way better after I was able to fix it.  I am pretty happy with the final results of my Contact Sheet and there really is not anything that I would change, other than the problems I was initially having with the clarity and resolution of my pictures.

This quote is from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  I chose this quote both because Harry Potter is one of my favorite series of books, and because this quote really made me think.

I used Poetica Std for “Do” because it is not an important word. I left it white and made it Italic so that it would blend with the rest of the quote. I used Poplar Std for “not” to make it stand out, I also made it red and used Bevel and Emboss to show the words importance in the quote. For “pity” I used Legault Std, because it looked small and sad.  I also put a space between each letter and warped the text into an arc to call attention to the word, leaving it a dull, sad, light blue color.  I left “the” in Myriad Pro in white, as well as smaller than the other words, because it is not as important.  I made “dead” Organica GMM Std and used inner shadow to make it look like it was dead and shriveling. I wanted the second “pity” to look similar to the first pity but still look individual.  To do this I made it a similar font, Pepita MT Std, and made it another shade of blue. I sharpened the font to make is stand out more. I left the next “the” the same as the first, for the same reasons.  I wanted to make “living” look alive, and as if it was coming off the page, so I made it green in Poetica Std and arched it to the right to make it look like it was coming off the page. I wanted “above” to literally be above “all” to depict its meaning, and I also arched it.  I made it yellow to stand out. It is in ITC Lubalin Graph Std, and I made it crisp, to help it be more prominent.  I wanted “all” to really stand out, so I used Goudy Heavyface Std and used a pattern overlay. I also italicized it.  I wanted “those” to look warm and inviting, as if it included many people.  I made it Montara Italic and sharpened it.  I left “who” plain and white and in Myriad Pro so it would not take away from the other words. Like “living,” I wanted to make “live” look alive and like it was growing.  I made it Russell Oblique Std and made is Strong and Informal, and I made it a slightly darker green. I wanted “without” to look naive, so I chose a font that looked like a child had written in, Reliq Std. I wanted love to look inviting, and elegant.  I made it Kuenstler Script LT Std and made it crisp. I also put it in an arc.  Lastly, I made it pink, as most things pertaining to love are.

I made the background black fading into dark blue because I feel like this is a dark quote with a mysterious meaning, and I feel the black and dark blue evokes that feeling. I am proud of the overall appearance.  I spaced the phrases out the way my mind read it, so that it would flow on the screen the way it did in my head.  If i had more time I would maybe try more fonts or different ideas for the background.
